  These are the 128 colors that various organizations including the W3 Consortium have agreed to use as 'one-word' color identifiers in browsers. As one can see, not all colors make sense. In fact some darks are lighter than their supposed lighter counterpart. Some colors look good with black backgrounds and others do not.

Web Safe colors, another W3 Consortium approved standard, originally came about due to the limitations that some browsers in combination with certain platforms were unable to see anymore than 216 colors without distortions. In today's technology almost all the colors are safe to use but the "Web Safe Colors" have pretty much latched onto the principles of web designing, for the most part. While the Web Safe Colors usually are preferred, it is very limiting to the array of over 16,000,000 colors available. Colorists find the limit intrusive to their creativeness. We will include the 216 Web Safe Colors in another page.

Although you do not need to use the Hex Code when using One-Word Colors, we have included it anyway for your information. Here we have a sample:
